Filippo Santoni de Sio

Filippo Santoni de Sio is an Assistant Professor in Philosophy at Delft University of Technology, affiliated with the Section Philosophy under the Faculty Technology, Policy and Management. His work bridges philosophy, law, neuroscience, and robotics, focusing on personal responsibility and the capacitarian idea that responsibility tracks mental capacity.

Research Interests: Santoni de Sio specializes in Robot Ethics and the implications of cognitive enhancement on moral/legal responsibility. His interdisciplinary approach examines how legal debates on hard cases (e.g., insanity, duress) challenge traditional philosophical views on personhood, agency, and free will. A key focus is the ethical and legal dilemmas surrounding cognitive enhancement in professional roles.

Projects: He previously led an NWO-funded post-doctoral project (2012–2014) titled Enhancing Responsibility: The Effects of Cognitive Enhancement on Moral and Legal Responsibility and contributed to a publication on irresistible desires as legal excuses.
