Research Interests
Pavanello’s work lies at the intersection of environmental, development and health economics, with a particular focus on the micro-level impacts of climate change and the effectiveness of adaptation strategies in developing economies. Employing state-of-the-art micro-econometric techniques, he quantifies:
- The social costs of rising temperatures, especially through heat-related mortality.
- Household adaptation responses, including the adoption of cooling technologies and the role of income constraints.
- The highly unequal distribution of heat exposure and access to adaptation tools across income groups and regions.
- The intended and unintended effects of public policies on the temperature–socio-economic outcome nexus.
Scientific Awards
- EAERE Best Doctoral Dissertation Award 2024
- Best Paper Award, CESifo/ifo Junior Workshop on Energy and Climate Economics 2025
Teaching & Supervision
Since 2024 he lectures on “Topics in Climate Economics” in the BA Economics programme at LMU Munich. He currently supervises three master’s theses (Amrei Schmidt, Giovanni Remonti, Lucia Nafziger) and one bachelor thesis (Johannes Kranz) as principal advisor.
