Filipa Subtil

Filipa Subtil is a Professor at the Communication Sciences section of Instituto Politécnico de Lisboa. Holding a PhD in Social Sciences (General Sociology) from the Institute of Social Sciences, University of Lisbon, she has undertaken visiting scholar roles at the Public Communication Department, University of Navarra (2019), Cardinal Stefan Wyszynski University, Warsaw (2017-2018), Communication Studies Department, University of Iowa (2010), and Muhlenberg College, USA (2008). Currently serving as deputy director of Media & Jornalismo journal, she previously held editorial leadership at Comunicação Pública (2014-2018) and served on the board of SOPCOM (Portuguese Association of Communication Sciences) (2015-2021).

Her publications frequently explore the intersection of technology, gender, and media systems, with a special emphasis on Portuguese and Ibero-American contexts.

Scientific Contributions: Filipa's research spans four decades, covering media sociology, gendered violence in journalism, and the mediatization of societal structures. She has extensively published in academic journals and books, focusing on media history, cultural studies, and the theoretical evolution of communication sciences.
