Fidel Khouli

Fidel Khouli is an Associate Professor in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at Carleton University. His research spans aeroservoelasticity, fly-by-wire systems, bio-inspired micro air vehicles (BMAVs), and helicopter flight dynamics.

Current projects focus on developing new sensor/actuator architectures for aerospace applications, reducing weight while enhancing system performance. This includes predicting interactions between aeroelastic models, control laws, and fly-by-wire systems. Additional work includes nonlinear modeling of aircraft landings with novel shock absorbers and bio-inspired flapping-wing mechanisms using smart actuation.

Collaborative BMAV research involves designing ultralightweight compliant mechanisms and operational prototypes. Prior to academia, Dr. Khouli spent seven years at Bombardier Aerospace as Dynamics and Aeroservoelasticity Engineer for the Global 7500 business jet program.
