Ferroni Fernando is a distinguished academic and researcher in physics, currently holding the position of Full Professor at both the Gran Sasso Science Institute (GSSI) in L’Aquila and Sapienza University of Rome. He served as President of the Istituto Nazionale di Fisica Nucleare (INFN) from 2011 to 2019 and has held leadership roles in various scientific committees, including the CERN Council and the Governing Board of Science Europe. His academic career spans over four decades, with roles including Director of the GSSI Physics Department and Rector delegate for Social Engagement at GSSI.
Education: He earned a Laurea in Physics from Sapienza University of Rome in 1975. His research focuses on experimental astroparticle physics, gravitational waves, and detector technologies, notably leading collaborations like the Einstein Telescope project (2021–present), the CUPID Collaboration, and the LUCIFER project funded by an ERC Advanced Grant. He has supervised numerous students who have achieved academic and professional success, including Full Professors and ERC Grantees.
With over 950 publications and 35,000 citations, Ferroni holds an H-index of 103. His contributions have been recognized through prestigious awards, and he has been a member of high-profile scientific committees and institutions globally.
