Ferran Navarro Risueño

Ferran Navarro Risueño is an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Genetics and Microbiology and serves as Director of the Hospital de la Santa Creu i Sant Pau since 2019. Previously, he held an adjunct position at the same institution from 1996 to 2019. He earned his Ph.D. in 1995 from the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB), focusing on genetic analysis of bacterial proteins.

His research interests span microbiology, antibiotic resistance mechanisms, and bacterial pathogenesis. Notably, he investigates multidrug-resistant bacteria like Escherichia coli and Klebsiella pneumoniae, with a focus on β-lactamase dynamics and plasmid-mediated resistance. His work addresses clinical challenges such as hospital-acquired infections and antimicrobial stewardship.

Recent publications (2024–2025) highlight studies on rapid diagnostic tools for urinary tract infections, mycobacterial genomics, and post-surgical infection prevention. His collaborative networks extend across Spain, with a focus on clinical and molecular microbiology.
