Fernando Ruiz Peyré serves as a Research Fellow at the Institute of Geography, University of Innsbruck, where he has maintained continuous affiliation since 2006. Originally from Mendoza, Argentina, his academic journey began with a year of study in Tübingen, Germany, where he met his spouse, prompting his return to Europe after completing undergraduate studies in Argentina. Under Professor Martin Coy's supervision, he completed his doctorate in 2014 and transitioned directly into his current postdoctoral position.
His research spans Geography with concentrated expertise in Human Geography, Social Geography, and Intercultural Studies, drawing from his lived experience in both Argentine and Central European contexts. This unique perspective fuels his investigation into cultural dynamics within mountain regions—connecting his Mendoza roots to Innsbruck's alpine environment—and informs his specialized focus on Latin American Studies.
Beyond academia, Ruiz Peyré actively contributes to the Intercultural Community Garden in Wilten and passionately supports Argentina's Riverplate soccer club. As a father of two children, he consciously integrates Argentinian values of openness and communication with Central European cultural elements, while critically reflecting on societal achievement-orientation in Austria and advocating for global awareness beyond Innsbruck's 'sheltered' environment.
