Fernando Marcos

Fernando Marcos serves as a Research Scientist II in the Department of Agronomy at Iowa State University, managing field and laboratory cropping systems research while overseeing the ISU Remote Sensing and Imaging Lab (RSIL). He concurrently pursues a Ph.D. in Crop Production and Physiology under Dr. Mark Licht.

Specializing in cover crop systems and remote sensing applications, Dr. Marcos integrates multispectral drone imagery, high-throughput phenotyping, and satellite data to evaluate crop performance and enhance modeling. His research specifically addresses nitrogen management challenges and disease dynamics in corn following cereal rye cover crops.

He leads the 2023 project "Can adjustments to nitrogen rates reduce corn yield drag and disease implications following a cereal rye cover crop?" while directing RSIL's technological initiatives in agricultural imaging. With five years of industry experience at Monsanto/Brazil, he bridges practical agricultural knowledge with advanced research methodologies.
