Fernando Castro Ortiz is a Lecturer at Northwestern University specializing in Spanish language instruction and Hispanic linguistics. He holds a B.A. in Translation and Interpretation (English/Italian) and an M.A. in Teaching Spanish as a Foreign Language from Spain, complemented by an M.A. in Hispanic Linguistics from the University of Iowa.
His research focuses on sociolinguistics, applied linguistics, and Spanish for specific professional purposes. He has over 15 years of teaching experience across the U.S. and Spain, designing courses on Spanish language, Hispanic culture, and linguistics. He actively supports educational accessibility through service-learning initiatives and Open Educational Resources (OER).
Fernando co-authored Salón de clase, a free textbook exploring Spanish language roles in U.S. education systems using interactive multimedia. He has advised Spanish majors/minors and contributed to departmental committees and extracurricular programs.
