Professor Fern Chertok is a faculty member at Brandeis University’s Hornstein Jewish Professional Leadership Program. She serves as Director of Advising and Field Experience Programs, combining academic leadership with practical training initiatives.
- Education: MA from University of Illinois and BA from State University of New York, Albany.
As a community psychologist, her research focuses on:
- Interfaith family experiences and preferences
- Economic insecurity in Jewish households
- Organizational health of synagogues
- Jewish identity formation and participation among young adults
- Innovation in Jewish community centers and synagogues
- Volunteerism dynamics within Jewish communities
She has conducted extensive training and consultation for Jewish communal organizations, including synagogues, day schools, and federations. Her editorial work includes co-editing Researching Community Psychology: Issues of Theory and Methods.
