Feridun Hamdullahpur is a Professor of Mechanical Engineering and President Emeritus of the University of Waterloo, where he served from 2010 to 2021. He holds a PhD in Chemical Engineering from the Technical University of Nova Scotia (1985), and earlier degrees from Istanbul Technical University (BSc 1976, MSc 1979). His research focuses on energy conversion systems, fluidized beds, and fluid dynamics, with over 500 publications and 50+ supervised graduate students.
He has received prestigious awards, including the Canadian Academy of Engineering Fellowship (2014), Royal Society of Canada’s Specially Elected Fellowship (2018), and the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal (2013). His recent teaching includes ME 659: Energy and Environment (2023).
His publications emphasize energy systems, fuel cells, and hydrogen production, reflecting his interdisciplinary approach to sustainable engineering. While not currently accepting graduate students, he retains Sole-Supervisory Privilege Status (SSPS).
