Prof. Dr. Ferdan Ergut is a Professor in the Department of History at Middle East Technical University (METU). He holds a Ph.D. from the New School for Social Research (2000), an M.A. from the same institution (1994), and a B.Sc. from METU (1989). His research focuses on comparative state formation in Europe, European revolutions, Ottoman Empire state-society relations, social movements, and the philosophy of social science.
His academic work includes over 30 publications, with notable books such as Modern Devlet ve Polis: Osmanlı'dan Cumhuriyet'e Toplumsal Denetimin Diyalektiği (2004) and edited volumes like II. Meşrutiyet'i Yeniden Düşünmek (2010). His articles analyze topics ranging from Ottoman policing strategies to historiographical methodologies. He teaches courses on historical methodology, European revolutions, and social transformations.
