Dr. Feni Kontogianni is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Psychology at the University of Winchester. Her work focuses on enhancing information elicitation techniques in forensic and security contexts, with a particular interest in memory retrieval methods and cognitive/social factors influencing reporting accuracy. She completed her PhD at the University of Portsmouth as part of CREST’s Information Elicitation programme, and holds an MSc in Forensic Psychology from Maastricht University and a BSc in Psychology from Athens.
Her research emphasizes memory-enhancing strategies such as timeline interviewing, self-generated mnemonics, and rapport-building protocols to improve information extraction from witnesses and informants. Notable contributions include developing the Timeline Technique, the Reporting Information about Networks and Groups (RING) task, and Time-Critical Questioning frameworks for emergency contexts. Recent work explores cross-cultural differences in eyewitness accounts, trust dynamics in virtual interactions, and alcohol’s impact on memory recall of repeated events.
Publications span journals like Memory, Applied Cognitive Psychology, and Law and Human Behavior, with a focus on optimizing forensic interview methods and understanding human factors in security settings. Her interdisciplinary approach bridges cognitive psychology, forensic science, and real-world operational challenges.
