Dr. Femke Feringa is a Researcher affiliated with the Faculty of Science at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, holding dual appointments in the Functional Genomics department and the Amsterdam Neuroscience research institute's Neurodegeneration program. Her work focuses on understanding molecular mechanisms underlying neurodegenerative diseases, lipid metabolism, and DNA damage responses. She has contributed to studies on Alzheimer’s disease, breast cancer biology, and cellular pathways involving SNARE proteins and ApoE variants.
Her research integrates lipidomics, genomics, and cell biology techniques to explore how genetic and metabolic factors influence disease progression. Key topics include ApoE’s role in cholesterol regulation, lipid droplet dynamics in neurons, and molecular pathways governing cell death and DNA repair.
Recent publications highlight her exploration of ApoE’s neuroprotective roles in lipid handling, SNARE protein-mediated cell death mechanisms, and the interplay between CIP2A and DNA repair in cancer. Her work has been recognized through collaborations with international teams and featured in high-impact journals like Journal of Cell Biology and Cancer Research.
