Professor Felix Steffek is the Newnham College Professor of Law at the University of Cambridge, serving as Deputy Chair of the Faculty Board and Director of the Centre for Corporate and Commercial Law (3CL). He holds a JM Keynes Fellowship in Financial Economics, alongside an LLM from Cambridge and a PhD from the University of Heidelberg. His research focuses on corporate finance law, insolvency law, commercial law, dispute resolution, and artificial intelligence, employing doctrinal analysis, comparative law, economic analysis, and empirical methods.
Education: LLM (Cambridge, 2002–2003), PhD in Law (Heidelberg, 2004–2007), Habilitation (Hamburg, 2009–2015). Earlier roles include Senior Research Fellow at the Max Planck Institute for Comparative and International Private Law (2007–2015) and visiting professorships at institutions such as Harvard, Oxford, and the University of Vienna.
He advises international organizations like the EBRD, OECD, and World Bank, and serves on editorial boards for journals including the Cambridge Yearbook of European Legal Studies and Journal of Conflict Management. Awards include the Otto Hahn Medal (2009) and Hachenburg Prize (2008).
Grants and funding: Recent projects include AHRC Curiosity (2024–2025), Nuffield Foundation (2023–2025), and ESRC grants. He oversees the Centre for Corporate and Commercial Law, leading research on legal innovation and financial regulation.
