Felix Schmidt is a Research Associate at the Department of English and American Studies within Humboldt University of Berlin's Faculty of Humanities, and a PhD candidate in the Department of German Literature. He joined the department in May 2023 after completing his 1. Staatsexamen in early 2023.
His research spans critical interdisciplinary territories at the intersection of queer theory and literary studies. Key focus areas include:
- Queer Temporality Studies reception in German contexts
- Transnational circulation of theoretical frameworks (Traveling Theory)
- Utopian imaginaries within Anthropocene discourse
- Contemporary German literary production
- Weimar Republic literary legacies
Currently embedded in the DFG/NCN-funded 'Queer Theory in Transit' project, his work analyzes institutional adoption of queer theoretical frameworks in German academia. His doctoral research develops parallel investigations into utopian thought in contemporary German literature facing ecological crisis. Methodologically, he employs discourse analysis and comparative literary approaches to trace theoretical migration and conceptual adaptation across cultural contexts.
Dr. Schmidt's educational foundation combines rigorous training in English and German literary studies with pedagogical expertise through his studies at Greifswald and Lancaster Universities. His interdisciplinary profile enables unique contributions to both literary scholarship and theoretical discourse analysis.
