Felix Nobis is a Senior Lecturer in the Centre for Theatre and Performance at Monash University. With a prior career as a professional actor and performance maker, he transitioned to academia after completing an MA in Old and Middle English at University College Cork (2000) and a PhD in comparative storytelling practices at Monash University (2012). His research focuses on medieval performance traditions, orality, and Work Integrated Learning (WIL). He has supervised Honours and PhD students in directing, playwriting, and storytelling practices.
Notable collaborations include projects on intercultural student learning, empathy in education, and embedding industry-relevant WIL across curricula. Recent grants include the Interfaculty Transformation Grants (2017–2019) and awards such as the 2018 Vice-Chancellor's Citation for Outstanding Contribution to Student Learning.
His creative work includes translations of Beowulf (recorded by ABC Radio National) and original plays like Boy out of the Country (2015), which was included in the VCE Theatre syllabus. He has held Writer in Residence roles and contributed to theatre companies such as Melbourne Theatre Company.
