Felix Herberth

Felix Herberth serves as a Researcher at the Institute of German Philology within the Faculty of Philosophy at the University of Würzburg, employed since April 2023. Concurrently, he is a doctoral candidate in the Graduate School for the Humanities' 'Middle Ages and Early Modern Period' program since Spring Semester 2024.

His academic background includes:

• Master's degree in 'Middle Ages and Early Modern Period' with specialization in medieval/early modern German language and literature (University of Würzburg, 2021-2024)
• Teacher training in German Studies and History (University of Würzburg, 2013-2021)

Herberth's research centers on textual transmission dynamics in pre-modern German literature, particularly analyzing Johannes Hartlieb's 15th-century 'Histori von dem großen Alexander' across 21 manuscripts and 13 printed editions. His work examines dialectal adaptations, printer interventions, and evolving authorship concepts, integrating cultural history with philological analysis to trace reception shifts from manuscript to print eras.

His recent conference reports for the DFG Schwerpunktprogramm 2130 reveal emerging trends in gender-diverse perspectives and subversive textual practices within early modern translation cultures, demonstrating interdisciplinary engagement with historical linguistics and cultural theory.

Supervised by Prof. Dr. Regina Toepfer, Prof. Dr. Joachim Hamm, and Prof. Dr. Carlotta Posth, Herberth contributes to the DFG-funded 'Translation Cultures of the Early Modern Period' program while teaching undergraduate seminars on Hartmann von Aue's epics, Konrad von Würzburg's works, and Pfaffe Lamprecht's Alexanderroman.
