Felix Christian Matthes

Dr. Felix Christian Matthes is a Senior Researcher and Research Coordinator for Energy and Climate Policy at the Öko-Institut Consult GmbH since 2009. He established the Berlin office of the Öko-Institut in 1990 and holds a doctorate (summa cum laude) in political science from Freie Universität Berlin (1999).

His research focuses on decarbonization strategies, CO2 pricing mechanisms, electricity market design, and technology assessment for hydrogen, nuclear energy, and carbon capture. He specializes in policy instrument analysis and has contributed to EU energy roadmaps and national climate protection frameworks.

Recent publications highlight hydrogen production economics, energy import costs, and electricity market reforms. He has also provided expert testimony on nuclear phase-out strategies and gas phase-out instruments.
