Felix C. Tropf is an Assistant Professor in Social Science Genetics at École Nationale de la Statistique et de l'Administration Économique (ENSAE) and Center for Research in Economics and Statistics (CREST) in Paris. He is also an Associate Member of Nuffield College, Oxford, and a Visiting Scientist at the Queensland Institute for Medical Research (QIMR), Australia. His research bridges sociology, genetics, and artificial intelligence to explore the life course determinants of fertility, health, and social mobility.
- Publications in Nature Human Behaviour, PNAS, Demography, and JAMA Psychiatry
- Founder of the interuniversity research group Social Science Genetics Paris
- Recipient of the European Demography Award for best PhD thesis
- Regularly teaches methods workshops on genetics and demography in Cologne, Oxford, and Turku
His work focuses on sociogenomics, examining how genetic and environmental factors interact to shape educational attainment, fertility timing, and social inequality. Current projects include follow-ups on gene-environment interplay in alcohol policy and heritability simulations using population genetics. He also collaborates on integrating genetic data into developmental psychology and urban inequality studies.
Prominent publications include:
- 2022: GWAS on fertility timing (Nature Human Behaviour)
- 2021: Heritability of education in relation to social mobility (PNAS)
- 2021: Gene-environment interplay in alcohol licensing policy (with Pietro Biroli)
- 2020: Sociogenomics review article (Annual Review of Sociology)
He advises PhD student Tobias and collaborates with rising stars like Perline Demange and Baptiste Couvy-Duchesne. Future research aims to expand genetic diversity in datasets and refine methods for disentangling environmental influences on social outcomes.
