Felix Amato is a Professor in the School of Social Work at Salem State University. He holds a Ph.D. and M.S.W. from Boston College Graduate School of Social Work, and a B.A. in Psychology from Stonehill College. With 18 years of clinical experience at McLean Hospital, his research examines violence predictors, gender role conflict, homelessness, and mental health interventions.
Research focuses on masculinity norms in forensic populations, homelessness risk factors, and therapeutic approaches for violent men. Current fieldwork involves interviewing homeless fathers in Providence, RI.
Dr. Amato teaches courses including Social Work Practice, Human Behavior, and Field Education. His community engagement includes developing father support groups and collaborating with social service organizations.
