Felicity James is an Associate Professor at the School of Arts, University of Leicester, where she teaches Romantic and Victorian literature and creative writing. She is currently seconded part-time to the Stoneygate Centre for Empathic Healthcare, integrating creative writing into medical curricula. Her research focuses on late 18th- and early 19th-century literature, particularly the works of Charles and Mary Lamb, Unitarian networks of women writers, and life-writing among religious dissenters. She co-chairs the Charles Lamb Society and edited a volume of the Lambs’ children’s writings for Oxford University Press, supported by a Leverhulme Fellowship (2021–2022).
Before joining Leicester in 2009, she was a British Academy Postdoctoral Fellow at Christ Church, Oxford, researching family biographies in Dissenter communities. She holds a Postgraduate Certificate in Academic Practice (Distinction) and is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. Her work bridges literary scholarship and healthcare, emphasizing creative writing’s role in addressing trauma and empathy.
