Dr. Felicitas Heßelmann is a researcher at Humboldt University's Sociology of Science and Evaluation Research department within the Faculty of Humanities, Social Sciences, and Education. Her work focuses on scientific misconduct, evaluation practices, and deviance discourse. She holds a BA in Sociology and Art History from TU Dresden and an MA in Sociology from the University of Mannheim. She has been affiliated with the German Centre for Higher Education Research and Science Studies (DZHW) since 2016.
Her research interests include the sociology of knowledge, discourse analysis, and valuation processes. Key projects involve automated misconduct investigations, authorship revision, and evaluation practices in science. Recent publications explore sanctions for misconduct, retractions’ role in science, and postcolonial critiques of scientific discourse. She actively participates in international conferences and collaborates on transdisciplinary research.
Her articles frequently analyze misconduct detection mechanisms, institutional accountability, and ethical frameworks. Notable works include a 2020 monograph on scientific misconduct sanctions and a 2019 article on apologies in misconduct cases.
