Dr. Felicia Goodrum is an Associate Professor in the Department of Immunobiology at the University of Arizona College of Medicine, with joint appointment at the BIO5 Institute. Her NIH-funded research program focuses on molecular mechanisms governing human cytomegalovirus (HCMV) latency and reactivation, using both in vitro and humanized mouse models. Goodrum's laboratory identified key viral determinants (UL133-UL138 locus) that regulate transitions between latent and replicative states.
Research integrates virology, molecular biology, and immunology approaches to define: (1) Virus-host interactions controlling latency establishment in hematopoietic progenitor cells, (2) Signaling pathways (EGFR/PI3K) regulating reactivation, and (3) Epigenetic control of viral gene expression. Recent work reveals how HCMV co-opts host ubiquitination machinery through interactions between UL138 and E3 ligase IDOL.
