Prof. Dr. Fehmi Odabaşoğlu is a full Professor at Kafkas University Faculty of Medicine, Department of Basic Medical Sciences, specializing in Biochemistry. Since 2024, he has served as a full-time Professor, previously holding roles as Associate Professor (2018–2024) and Assistant Professor (2014–2019) at the same institution. He also served as Assistant Professor at Atatürk University Faculty of Pharmacy from 1999 to 2013.
He earned his Bachelor’s degree in Biology from Atatürk University (1985–1990), followed by a Master’s degree in Biology from Yüzüncü Yıl University (1991–1993), and a PhD in Biology from the same university (1994–1998).
His research is centered on biochemistry, antioxidant mechanisms, gastroprotective effects of natural compounds, and inflammatory processes. He has extensively studied lichen-derived metabolites, plant oils, and their therapeutic potential in gastric ulcer models.
His publication record includes over 130 peer-reviewed articles, with a strong focus on natural product pharmacology, oxidative stress, and inflammation. His work has been published in journals such as Phytomedicine, Journal of Ethnopharmacology, European Journal of Pharmacology, and Journal of Cellular Biochemistry.
He has led 22 research projects funded by the Turkish Council of Higher Education, focusing on topics such as gastroprotective and anti-inflammatory effects of plant-derived oils and lichen metabolites. He has supervised 18 master’s and doctoral theses as principal advisor.
He teaches a wide range of courses including Medical Biochemistry, Biochemical Laboratory Techniques, Antioxidant Systems, Apoptosis, and Hormonal Regulation at undergraduate and graduate levels.
