Federico Grillini is a Research Fellow in the Department of Geosciences and Natural Resource Management at the Faculty of Science, University of Copenhagen, leading the AVOCA (Arctic biogenic Volatile Organic Compounds from Above) project which employs drone-based imaging spectroscopy to investigate BVOC emissions in Arctic tundra at unprecedented resolution and scale.
His academic qualifications include:
- PhD in Computer Science (2020-2023) from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology, awarded December 7, 2023
- MSc in Colour Science (2018-2020) from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology, awarded September 7, 2020
- BSc in Optics and Optometry (2014-2017) from the University of Florence, awarded December 14, 2017
Grillini's research integrates remote sensing, hyperspectral imaging, and spectroscopy across environmental and cultural domains, with current emphasis on Arctic BVOC dynamics using drone technology and field validation, while his doctoral work developed VNIR-SWIR fusion techniques for non-invasive analysis of historical artifacts like paintings and textiles. His expertise spans image processing, computer vision, and volatile compound monitoring in extreme environments.
He actively collaborates within the AVOCA project team, combining drone deployments, ground measurements, and satellite data analysis to advance understanding of biogenic emissions in polar regions.
