Fausto Rossi

Fausto Rossi is a Full Professor in the Department of Applied Science and Technology (DISAT) at Politecnico di Torino, where he serves as Head of the Nanophysics and Quantum Systems Research Group. With expertise spanning condensed matter physics and semiconductor quantum devices, Professor Rossi has established himself as a leading researcher in ultrafast phenomena, quantum transport, and quantum information processing.

Professor Rossi earned his Laurea in Physics with highest honors (110/110 cum Laude) from the University of Modena in 1988, followed by a Ph.D. in Physics from the University of Parma in 1993. His early career included research positions at the Max-Planck Arbeitsgruppe Halbleitertheorie in Berlin, Philipps-Universität Marburg in Germany, and the University of Modena.

Professor Rossi's research focuses on theoretical investigations of ultrafast processes in semiconductors, quantum transport phenomena, and quantum information processing with semiconductor nanostructures. His work spans from fundamental studies of electron dynamics in low-dimensional systems to practical applications in quantum devices. Notably, he co-developed the first Monte Carlo method for simulating ultrafast coherent phenomena in semiconductors, which has become foundational in the field.

An analysis of Professor Rossi's most recent publications reveals a continued focus on topological materials, quantum transport phenomena, and semiconductor-based quantum devices. As Head of the Nanophysics and Quantum Systems Research Group at DISAT, Professor Rossi leads a team investigating semiconductor quantum devices, ultrafast phenomena, and quantum information processing. The group maintains strong collaborations with international research institutions and has contributed to landmark developments including the design of the first Terahertz laser.
