Dr. Fatwa Adikusuma is an Externally-Funded Research Fellow (B) at the University of Adelaide's School of Biomedicine within the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences. He leads the Gene Editing Technology and Therapeutics Laboratory and holds an NHMRC Emerging Leadership Level 2 Investigator Grant. His research focuses on CRISPR-based gene editing for genetic diseases, including Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD), Retinitis Pigmentosa, Spinal Muscular Atrophy, and Cystic Fibrosis. He co-founded Gene Editing Therapeutics Pty Ltd (GETx) to translate these therapies into clinical applications.
**Education & Supervision**: Completed his PhD at the University of Adelaide under Prof. Paul Thomas. Eligible to supervise Masters and PhD students in gene editing and therapeutic development.
**Awards**: Received multiple ECR awards (2018–2022), including recognition from the University of Adelaide and SAHMRI. Finalist for the University of Adelaide ECR Award.
**Research Themes**: CRISPR optimization, gene drive systems for pest control, and preclinical models for genetic disease therapies. Collaborates with SAHMRI and industry partners like GETx.
