معرفی
Prof. Fatma Suna Balcı is a faculty member in the Department of Chemical Engineering at the Faculty of Engineering, Gazi University, where she has been a Professor since 2002. She previously served as Associate Professor (1996–2002) and Assistant Professor (1993–1996) at the same institution. She earned her B.Sc., M.Sc., and Ph.D. degrees in Chemical Engineering from Middle East Technical University. She is the founder and coordinator of the Process Safety Non-Thesis Master's Program at Gazi University and also serves as the coordinator for Occupational Health and Safety courses in the Faculty of Engineering.
Research Interests:
- Chemical Engineering and Technology
- Porous Materials: synthesis and characterization of pillared clays, SBA-15, MCM-41, mesoporous carbon, activated carbon
- Catalysis: heterogeneous catalytic reactions, ethanol oxidation/dehydration, CO₂ hydrogenation
- Process Safety, Risk Assessment, and Environmental Management
- Sustainability in process and plant design
- Wastewater treatment using porous adsorbents
Her recent publications focus on mesoporous silica-pillared clays, metal-incorporated catalysts (e.g., Ni, Cu, Fe, Ti), and advanced oxidation processes for environmental remediation. She has contributed to the development of novel catalysts for CO oxidation, phenol degradation, and biofuel conversion. Her work combines materials synthesis, characterization, and catalytic testing, often applied to energy and environmental challenges.
