Fatima Afzal

Dr. Fatima Afzal is a Senior Lecturer and Head of Course in Construction Management at Central Queensland University’s School of Engineering and Technology. She holds a PhD in Construction Management from UNSW and has over 11 years of academic experience in course design, curriculum development, and program accreditation. Her research focuses on sustainability in construction, project management, and innovative pedagogy. She has been recognized with multiple teaching excellence awards, including the Dean’s Commendation and UNSW Postgraduate Publication Award.

Education: B.Eng (Civil Engineering) from NED University, MSc in Project Management from UNSW, and a PhD in Construction Management from UNSW.

Research interests include corporate sustainability performance, environmental and social governance in construction, and digital transformation in education. She collaborates with public and private sectors on sustainability and workforce development. Dr. Afzal currently supervises research candidates in Environmental Engineering, Building, and Built Environment disciplines and is actively involved in teaching units like Construction Procurement, Contract Administration, and Project Management Practicum.

Awards include repeated teaching excellence commendations (2019-2023), 3MT Winner (2015), and UNSW Postgraduate Publication Award (2019).

Her work bridges academia and industry, emphasizing leadership styles for sustainability, student engagement, and active learning strategies to prepare future project leaders. She advises on sustainability policies and contributes to advancing BIM and machine learning applications in construction.
