Fatih Celiker

Fatih Celiker is a Professor of Mathematics at Wayne State University's Department of Mathematics within the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences. His research focuses on numerical analysis, scientific computing, discontinuous Galerkin methods, superconvergence phenomena, nonlocal problems, and peridynamics. He has held academic positions at Wayne State since 2006, progressing from Assistant Professor (2006-2012), Associate Professor (2012-2018), to his current role as Professor (2018-present). Prior to this, he was a postdoctoral scholar at Stanford University and a research/teaching assistant at the University of Minnesota and Bogazici University.

Education: PhD in Mathematics from the University of Minnesota (2005), MS in Mathematics from Bogazici University (2000), and BS in Mathematics Education from Bogazici University (1998).

Research Interests: Celiker specializes in developing and analyzing numerical methods for partial differential equations, with a focus on discontinuous Galerkin (DG) methods for structural mechanics, superconvergence, and nonlocal models such as peridynamics. His work bridges theoretical analysis and computational implementation, addressing challenges in boundary conditions and error estimation.

Publications: Over 30 peer-reviewed journal articles and book chapters, including contributions to Advances in Computational Mathematics, Journal of Computational and Applied Mathematics, and SIAM Journal on Numerical Analysis. Recent work explores nonlocal operators with local boundary conditions and hybridizable DG methods for fractional problems.

Awards: Recognized with NSF grants, teaching excellence awards, and fellowship support for his innovative approaches in numerical methods and education.

Teaching: Instructs advanced courses such as MAT5410 (Applied Linear Algebra), MAT5700 (Probability Theory), and MAT5600 (Introduction to Analysis I).
