Fater Akuhwa is a Researcher (PhD student) in the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering at Imperial College London, affiliated with the Control and Power Group and Energy Futures Lab ESIG G-PST EPICS. His research explores grid and IBR co-design for system services in 100% renewable electricity grids.
Education:
- MSc, Energy Systems (2019-2021) - Skolkovo Institute of Science and Technology, Moscow, Russia
- BSc, Industrial Electronics (2015-2019) - Kazan State Power Engineering University, Kazan’, Russia
Research Focus: Proposing trade-offs between modifying inverters and enhancing grid infrastructure to replace system services previously provided by synchronous generators, with emphasis on minimizing angle deviation and optimizing mho regions in protection relays for selectivity without additional hardware.
Professional Experience:
- Graduate Teaching Assistant for Mathematics for Engineers, Topics in Electrical Engineering, and Power Systems and Power Electronics modules
- Participated in Global Fellows Program (Kigali, Rwanda, November 2023) - partnership with African Institute for Mathematical Sciences (AIMS)
- Research visit to University of Toronto (May-August 2024) as recipient of Imperial's Turing Award
Scientific Awards:
- Turing Award (Imperial College London)
