Farzaneh Firoozbakht is a Researcher at the Computational Systems Biology (CoSy.Bio) lab within the Faculty of Mathematics, Informatics and Natural Sciences at the University of Hamburg since April 2023. She holds a B.Sc. in Electrical Engineering from Islamic Azad University (IAU) and an M.Sc. in Biomedical Engineering from Amirkabir University of Technology (AUT). Her work focuses on applying machine learning (ML) and network-based approaches to biomedical challenges, particularly in drug repurposing (DrugSiderAI project) and personalized medicine through transcriptomic data analysis. She specializes in graph convolutional neural networks to model biological networks.
Her research bridges computational methods with medical applications, emphasizing adverse drug reaction mechanisms and patient stratification using omics data. Projects like UnPaSt and DREAMER highlight her contributions to unsupervised patient grouping and drug-disease network analysis. She also developed tools like PLEX for multiplex network analysis in clinical variation studies.
Professional activities include collaboration with the REPO4EU consortium on drug repurposing chatbots (DrugRepoChatter) and prior work in cardiac signal processing for heart sound diagnosis. Her expertise spans feature reduction methods, biomarker discovery, and translational bioinformatics.
