Farshid Najafi is an Assistant Professor of Professional Practice and Graduate Student Supervisor in the School of Mechatronic Systems Engineering at Simon Fraser University (SFU). He holds a Ph.D. (2009) and M.Sc. (2004) in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Manitoba, Canada, and a B.Sc. (1996) in Mechanical Engineering from Sharif University of Technology, Iran.
His research focuses on medical and surgical robotic systems, haptic devices, internet-based tele-robotic systems, and educational robotics for STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics). Teaching interests include robotics, mechatronics, industrial internet of things (IIoT), and smart manufacturing. He currently teaches courses such as Smart Factory II, Industrial Internet of Things, and Industry 4.0.
