Farshid Moussavi is a Professor in Practice of Architecture at Harvard University's Graduate School of Design (GSD), leading the Department of Architecture. She heads Farshid Moussavi Architecture (FMA), renowned for projects like the Museum of Contemporary Art in Cleveland and the Ismaili Center Houston. Her academic roles include teaching at GSD, UCLA, Columbia, and the Royal Academy of Arts.
Educated at Harvard GSD, the Bartlett School, and Dundee University, Moussavi's research focuses on adaptive urban housing, micropolitical architecture, and dual-use residential design. Her awards include the OBE (2018) and Royal Academician title (2015). She advises on architectural panels for the RIBA and serves on cultural trusts like the Norman Foster Foundation.
Her recent work critiques deterministic architectural approaches, advocating instead for responsive design shaped by everyday micropolitics. Current projects include the Ismaili Center Houston (2025) and a Parisian primary school. Teaching studios explore live-work housing typologies and urban resilience.
