Farshad Arvin is Professor of Robotics at Durham University's Department of Computer Science. He directs the Swarm & Computation Intelligence Laboratory (SwaCIL) and leads multi-million Euro projects including RoboRoyale, Sensorbees, and BioDiMoBot.
His research develops bio-inspired swarm robotics for applications ranging from environmental monitoring to biohybrid systems. The laboratory focuses on autonomous coordination algorithms for robotic collectives and human-swarm interaction paradigms.
Professor Arvin has pioneered artificial pheromone systems for robotic coordination and perpetual robot swarms with inductive charging. Current work involves developing micro-robotic systems for hazardous environment inspection and cooperative bio-monitoring platforms.
