Farooz Rather is an Associate Professor of Practice in the Department of Humanities at Simmons University, part of the Gwen Ifill College of Media, Arts, and Humanities. He holds a PhD in Creative Writing from Florida State University and an MFA from California State University Fresno. His research explores themes of migration, political resistance, and postcolonial identity, particularly through the lens of Kashmiri experiences. Current projects include The Derby Shoe, a novel examining the American Dream's contradictions through a Kashmiri protagonist's journey. He has been awarded the Hazel Dick Leonard Faculty Award and has published works in The Common, Kenyon Review, and others. His teaching spans creative writing, literature, and leadership storytelling.

Research focuses on global fiction, literary responses to conflict, and the intersection of memory and politics. Awards include the William Saroyan Prize and DISQUIET Literary Prize nominations. Community engagement includes work with faculty diversity initiatives and literary symposiums.
