Professor Faron Moller is a distinguished academic at Swansea University's Faculty of Science and Engineering, where he serves as a Professor of Computer Science within the School of Mathematics and Computer Science. He holds multiple leadership positions including Founding Head of the Swansea Railway Verification Group, Director of Technocamps (a pan-Wales schools and community outreach programme), Head of the Institute of Coding in Wales, and co-Lead of the Research Theme on Educational, Historical and Philosophical Foundations of Computer Science.
His research interests span Concurrency Theory, Automata Theory, Modal and Temporal Logic, Verification, and Computer Science Education. Moller has made significant contributions to formal methods in railway systems verification and has pioneered approaches to integrating theoretical computer science concepts into educational settings from school level through to higher education.
Analysis of his recent publications reveals a dual research trajectory: one strand focuses on formal methods for railway safety verification, while the other emphasizes innovative approaches to computer science education. His work demonstrates how theoretical computer science concepts can be made accessible to diverse audiences, from school children to professional developers. Recent publications show increasing integration of emerging technologies like generative AI into software development education and digital skills training.
Moller actively supervises postgraduate research, including PhD and MSc students, with projects spanning GPGPU acceleration techniques and AI-generated educational resources. He has developed a strong track record in securing research funding for educational initiatives across Wales.
He leads the Swansea Railway Verification Group and plays a pivotal role in Technocamps, which has hubs in every university in Wales. Through the Institute of Coding in Wales, he bridges academic research with industry needs, creating pathways for digital skills development across the Welsh economy.
