Farid N. Najm is a Professor in the Edward S. Rogers Sr. Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Toronto. He previously served as Department Chair (2009–2019) and Vice-Chair (2004–2007). Dr. Najm earned his B.E. in Electrical Engineering from the American University of Beirut (AUB) in 1983, followed by M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC) in 1986 and 1989, respectively.
- Former Assistant Professor and Associate Professor at UIUC (1989–1999)
- Research focus: Computer-Aided Design (CAD) for Integrated Circuits, emphasizing power dissipation, timing, and reliability
His work addresses critical challenges in semiconductor design, including power grid verification and reliability checking. Dr. Najm has authored a widely recognized textbook Circuit Simulation (2010), which provides rigorous foundations for developing circuit simulators.
