Farid Azfar is an Associate Professor of History at Swarthmore College, affiliated with Asian Studies and Interpretation Theory programs. He specializes in Early Modern Europe, urban history, and sexuality studies. Previously teaching at Scripps and Haverford Colleges, his research includes slave-trading contracts and international law, climate history of colonial Karachi, and riparian histories of South Asia. He currently serves as Associate Reviews Editor for the American Historical Review and contributes to organizations like the American Council for Learned Societies. His teaching spans European surveys to seminars on witch-hunting, heresy, and South Asian riverine cultures.
