His research emphasizes modifiable cancer risk factors and disparities in cancer diagnosis, treatment, and survival. He leads studies on tobacco control, alcohol consumption, and socioeconomic determinants of health. His work informs global policy through initiatives like the Global Burden of Disease Study and IARC collaborations.
Dr. Islami’s recent articles highlight trends in cancer mortality, disparities in mental health care access, and the impacts of policy changes like the Dobbs ruling on cancer care. He also explores disparities in health insurance coverage and geographic access to preventive services.
His grants and collaborations span ACS, IARC, and global health organizations. He leads teams analyzing disparities in cancer survivorship, screening utilization, and treatment outcomes across diverse populations.
Dr. Islami’s lab focuses on translational research to bridge epidemiological findings with actionable public health strategies, particularly in underserved communities and high-risk regions like Northeast Iran.
