Fareed Kaviani is a Research Fellow at Monash University's Department of Human Centred Computing, affiliated with the Emerging Technologies Research Lab (ETLab) and the Monash University Accident Research Centre (MUARC). His work spans energy and technology futures, road safety policy, and social science methodologies. He holds a PhD from Monash Sustainable Development Institute (2021), a Master's from Deakin University (Literature), and a Bachelor's in Sociology from La Trobe University.
Research focuses include gig economy safety, automated vehicles, electric vehicle adoption, and tattoo/body modification culture. He leads the BC-GRIP project (2017–2021) and contributes to the SFL project (2024–2027). Awards include the 2024 Good Design Award and 2021 Postgraduate Publications Award. Key collaborations involve VicRoads, MoMA New York, and the National Road Safety Partnership Program.
Publications address road safety culture, rideshare risks, household energy values, and future schooling scenarios. Media engagements include features on smartglass use and AI in education. His body modification research explores cultural identity and marginalization, influencing documentaries and museum exhibitions.
