Faraz S Ahmad

Faraz S Ahmad, MD, MS is an Assistant Professor at Northwestern University with dual appointments in the Department of Medicine (Cardiology) and Department of Preventive Medicine (Biostatistics and Informatics). He serves as Associate Director of the Bluhm Cardiovascular Institute Center for Artificial Intelligence at Northwestern Medicine and maintains clinical privileges at Northwestern Memorial Hospital.

Dr. Ahmad completed his medical degree at the University of Chicago (2009), followed by residency at University of Pennsylvania Hospitals (2012), fellowships in Cardiovascular Disease (2016), Heart Transplant and Heart Failure (2018), and a Master of Science at Northwestern University (2017). He holds triple board certifications in Cardiovascular Disease, Advanced Heart Failure & Transplant Cardiology, and Clinical Informatics.

His research focuses on developing AI-enabled technologies and digital health solutions to improve cardiovascular care quality and patient outcomes. Key research areas include:

• Artificial intelligence applications in cardiac amyloidosis detection and heart failure management
• Implementation science for guideline-directed therapies
• Digital phenotyping for heart failure prediction
• Health disparities in cardiovascular outcomes
• Patient-centered outcomes research

Recent publications demonstrate concentrated focus on AI-driven diagnostic tools (particularly for cardiac amyloidosis and hypertension), implementation strategies for heart failure therapies, and social determinants of cardiovascular health. His research has received funding from NHLBI, AHA, PCORI, HFSA, and CDC.

As Associate Director of the Center for Artificial Intelligence, he leads initiatives integrating AI into cardiovascular care pathways. Dr. Ahmad maintains active clinical practice specializing in advanced heart failure, cardiomyopathy management, heart transplantation, and mechanical circulatory support.
