Faraz Janan is the Senior Tutor in the Department of Bioengineering at Imperial College London's Faculty of Engineering, alongside a fractional Senior Lecturer role in AI at Anglia Ruskin University. He holds a DPhil from the University of Oxford, an MEng from the University of Liverpool, and a BSc from COMSATS University Islamabad. His research focuses on medical image analysis, AI applications in healthcare, and computer vision, with particular emphasis on breast imaging, cardiac diagnostics, and augmented reality systems in medical contexts. He has contributed to advancements in deep learning models for medical image segmentation and spatiotemporal feature extraction from endoscopic videos.
- Educations:
- DPhil in Biomedical Imaging, University of Oxford (2011–2014)
- MEng in Information and Intelligence Engineering, University of Liverpool (2006–2007)
- BSc in Computer Engineering, COMSATS University Islamabad (2001–2005)
- Affiliations:
- Imperial College London's Artificial Intelligence Network
- Cancer Technology Network
His work bridges academic research and clinical applications, including the development of Breast3D—a novel augmented reality system for breast CT/MRI analysis—and MIXR, a standardized architecture for medical image analysis in mixed reality environments. He has also explored policy proposals for educational systems in Pakistan and contributed to esophageal abnormality detection using spatiotemporal features.
Dr. Janan is a Daniel Turnberg Fellow and actively supports student well-being through Imperial's academic support structures. His interdisciplinary research spans biomedical engineering, computer science, and healthcare technology, with notable contributions to cardiac ultrasound segmentation, breast cancer laterality studies, and CADe optimization.
