Fanny Elahi

Fanny Elahi is an Associate Professor at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, specializing in vascular cognitive impairment (VCID), neurodegenerative diseases, and biomarker discovery. Her research focuses on neurovascular mechanisms, blood-brain barrier dysfunction, and the development of novel biomarkers using extracellular vesicles and proteomics. She has contributed to studies on Alzheimer’s disease, cerebral small vessel disease, and the impact of systemic factors like atherosclerosis on brain health.

Education: Graduated from the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai (ISMMS) in 2011. Her work integrates clinical neurology with biotechnology, particularly in microfluidics and bioprinting for tissue vascularization. She participates in collaborative projects such as the Clearance of Interstitial Fluid (ISF) and CSF (CLIC) group within the Vascular Professional Interest Area (PIA).

Research interests span neuroimmunology, endothelial dysfunction, and the role of inflammation in brain aging. Key themes include sex differences in neurovascular health, retinal imaging as a biomarker for intracranial pathology, and the proteomic analysis of cerebrospinal fluid. Her recent studies highlight the therapeutic potential of targeting complement proteins and the clinical implications of plasma biomarkers like placental growth factor.
