Dr. Fanlin Meng is a Senior Lecturer in Operations and Analytics at the University of Exeter Business School, serving as Research Lead of the Operations and Analytics subdepartment. Previously, he held academic roles at the University of Manchester, University of Edinburgh, and Durham University. He earned his PhD in Computer Science (Machine Learning and Optimization) from the University of Manchester in 2015.
His research focuses on Energy Data Analytics, Smart Energy Systems, Machine Learning, Game Theory, and Optimization, contributing to UN Sustainable Development Goals related to Affordable and Clean Energy (SDG7), Sustainable Cities (SDG11), and Climate Action (SDG13). He is a Fellow of the British Computer Society (FBCS), a member of the EPSRC Peer Review College, and a Senior Member of IEEE.
Research Interests: Meng specializes in Energy Market dynamics, Demand Response mechanisms, Renewable Energy Integration, and the application of advanced analytics to Smart Grids and Mobility systems. His work bridges machine learning with energy systems, addressing challenges such as dynamic pricing, customer segmentation, and privacy-preserving data frameworks.
Grants & Projects: He leads a UKRI IAA Strategic Partnership Fund project on AI-driven airport digital frameworks with Manchester Airports Group (MAG). His research has secured funding from organizations like Oracle and Baylor University, focusing on computational intelligence and energy systems.
Awards: His accolades include FBCS, EPSRC Peer Review College membership, and IEEE Senior Membership. He has supervised PhD students Qiuyi (postdoc at Newcastle) and Shuang (postdoc at Exeter).
