Fani Boukouvala is an Associate Professor in the School of Chemical & Biomolecular Engineering at Georgia Tech's College of Engineering. Appointed in August 2016 after postdoctoral work at Princeton and Texas A&M, she develops computational frameworks at the intersection of Process Systems Engineering, mathematical programming, and data analytics for sustainable energy and pharmaceutical applications.
Education:
- PhD, Chemical & Biochemical Engineering, Rutgers University, 2013
- BS, Chemical Engineering, National Technical University of Athens, Greece, 2008
Her research pioneers hybrid modeling and optimization tools spanning molecular to enterprise scales. Key applications include CO2 sequestration, energy-efficient power grids, pharmaceutical manufacturing, and biorefining. By integrating machine learning with chemical engineering principles, her work enables non-intuitive solutions for sustainable systems under uncertainty.
Awards:
- Glenn T. Wright Faculty Fellow
As leader of the Data-Driven Process Systems Engineering Lab, she mentors researchers in tackling carbon capture, plastics recycling, and resilient infrastructure. Her collaborative team environment emphasizes scalable solutions for global sustainability challenges through computational innovation.
