Biography
Falko Steinbach is a Professor of Veterinary Immunology at the School of Veterinary Medicine, part of the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences at the University of Surrey. He holds editorial roles for journals including TBED, Frontiers in Immunology, and Vaccines. His research focuses on host-pathogen interactions, immune system modulation, and systems immunology, with a particular emphasis on dendritic cell biology in horses and other animals.
Educational Background
- Graduated as a veterinarian in 1990 from the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine in Berlin, Germany.
- Completed postgraduate degrees in veterinary medicine at the Free University of Berlin (1994, 2004).
Research Interests
Steinbach’s work centers on understanding immune responses to viral infections, including herpesviruses, pestiviruses, and arteriviruses. Key areas include viral pathogenesis, vaccine development, and the role of dendritic cells in antiviral immunity. His research has implications for both animal health and zoonotic disease control.
