Fahrettin SARCAN

Assoc. Prof. Fahrettin Sarcan is a faculty member at Istanbul University, Faculty of Science, Department of Physics, where he has been working since 2013. He currently holds the position of Associate Professor (2022-Present), having previously served as Assistant Professor (2021-2022). He also spent time as a Researcher at the University of York, Faculty of Science, Department of Physics (2019 and 2020-2021). He leads the Nano and Optoelectronics Research Laboratory at Istanbul University.

Dr. Sarcan's research focuses on nanotechnology and optoelectronics, with particular emphasis on two-dimensional materials, semiconductor physics, and optoelectronic devices. His work spans several key areas including the study of optical and electronic properties of transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDs), development of novel photodetectors and light-emitting devices, investigation of negative capacitance phenomena, and creation of gas sensors based on 2D materials. His research has significant applications in optoelectronics, photonics, and sensor technology.

Analysis of his recent publications (2023-2025) reveals a strong focus on two-dimensional materials (particularly transition metal dichalcogenides like MoS₂ and WS₂), optoelectronic devices (photodetectors, LEDs), and novel semiconductor phenomena (negative capacitance).
