Fabrice Barlesi is Professor of Medicine at Université Paris-Saclay and General Director of Gustave Roussy, Europe's leading cancer center. He specializes in thoracic oncology, precision medicine, and cancer immunotherapy. His career includes founding the Multidisciplinary Oncology and Innovative Therapies Department in Marseille and establishing the Marseille Centre for Early Trials in Oncology (certified by the National Cancer Institute).
Research interests focus on lung cancer biology, adaptive therapeutic strategies, and overcoming resistance to immunotherapy. Barlesi pioneers the use of mathematical modeling for cancer evolution and advocates for early-phase clinical trials to accelerate innovative therapies. His work addresses bronchial cancer's high mortality through biomarker-driven treatments.
Major scientific awards include the Heine H. Hansen Award (2018) and Daniel C. Ihde Lectureship (2021). He coordinates large-scale projects like the RHU-funded Pioneer study on immunotherapy resistance and co-founded the Marseille Immunopôle cluster.
